Troubleshooting: NEW ID Printer Error – Elatec Encoder Not Found

When printing RFID-enabled badges, you may see the following error message:

Printer Error
The Elatec encoder in the printer was not found. Since this is an RFID list, please make sure the selected printer can support this operation. Please try again. If the problem persists, please submit a support case.

This error means that the printer configuration is set up incorrectly to encode badges. To resolve this, you will need to verify and adjust the USB setting in the printer configuration.


Steps to Fix Printer Configuration

  1. Open Printer Properties

    • Go to:
      Printer Properties > Service > Config Printer

  2. Expand Configuration Settings

    • Click the > arrow to expand the configuration menu.

  3. Verify USB Serial Setting

    • Locate the “Use USB Serial” option.

    • Make sure “Use” is selected.

  4. Save the Configuration

    • Click Set Config.

  5. Close the Configuration Window

    • Click Close once changes are applied.

  6. Power Cycle the Printer

    • Turn off the CIX900 printer.

    • Wait a few seconds, then power it back on.
