Protect ID Cards from Damages

RFID cards can be physically or magnetically damaged if not properly protected. For best practices, avoid crushing, bending, or puncturing holes in cards because it will damage the RFID chip antenna in the cards. Avoid placing cards near high magnetic areas like microwaves and speakers because it will demagnetize the RFID chip antennas.

It is recommended to use card holders to properly secure cards from any physical and magnetic damages. The ID cards can withstand more physical and magnetic pressure by having another layer of protection

Types of Damage

Physical Damage

Bending: Prevent your ID card from bending by placing the card in a rigid card holder or a wallet. ID cards can easily bend and will damage the chip antennas without any protection.

Crushing: Prevent your ID card from crushing by remembering to remove ID card and card holder during laundry, in between seats in a car, and a backpack.

Puncturing: Puncturing holes in the wrong area can damage the chip antenna. If the chip antenna is punctured, the ID card will no longer operate. Use a special card puncturing device to ensure puncture is avoiding the the chip antenna.

Heat Exposure: Prevent your ID card from sun damage by not leaving the ID card in high heat areas. Leaving an ID card out and too long in the sun, kitchen stove, sauna can alter the card's physical shape and damage the chip antenna.

Electronic Damage

Microwave: Prevent your ID card from any electronic damage by avoiding microwaves that emit electromagnetic energy. While the card may still look intact, the electromagnetic energy can demagnetize the chip antenna.

Speaker: Prevent your ID card from any sound wave damage by avoiding high sound areas. Sound waves are electromagnetic and placing an ID card too close to speakers can demagnetize the chip antenna.
