QR Code embedded ID Cards ensure a secure authentication and authorization for students and staff. When scanning QR codes with a computer webcam, here are a list of best practices ensuring a seamless process.

Lighting

When scanning a QR code with a computer webcam, ensure proper lighting is covering the ID Card. Utilize lighting as many light sources like a lamp, flashlight, and sun to ensure the computer webcam can properly scan the QR code free of any shadows and dim spots.

Background

The background should be plain without any distracting features where the camera may lose focus on ID Card.

Placement

Secure the ID Card when scanning by not moving your arms too much. The computer webcam may have trouble focusing on the ID Card. In addition, ensure the computer webcam is scanning at an proper angle and not tilted.

Distance

Do not hold the ID Card too far or too close because the camera may not pick up the QR code. The distance between the camera and ID card should be close enough where the QR code will fill 75% of the frame.

Clean Camera

Ensure your computer webcam is free of any dust and smudges by wiping it off with a soft cloth.
